Cyber Challenges for the Education Sector

According to Symantec, the education sector accounted for ten percent of reported security breaches in 2014. EdTech Magazine reported in 2015 that 1.35 million personal identities were exposed to hackers in the education sector. Awareness in cyber risks has been overlooked in the education sector making it an easy target. These breaches affect institutions both on the University / College and K-12 level.  In addition, both types of institutions have suffered from a series of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. MIT noted that they had more than 35 DDoS campaigns in in the first half of 2016.
